The children were doing a project with Mrs May about life in Victorian times.

“Life was hard for lots of children,” said Mrs May.

“Most children didn’t have new shoes, or go to school,” she said.

“School was different, too” said Mrs May. “The teachers were very strict.”

“Is it true that the teacher could frighten the children with a ruler?” asked Biff.

“Yes, it’s true,” said Mrs May.

We are going to Duke History Park tomorrow. Said Mrs May.

“We will see what it was like in Victorian schools,” she said.

The next day, they went to Duke History Park.

The children put on costumes.

They waited outside the school in a queue.

“Be quiet!” shouted Mr Scroop.

“What is eight times three plus two?” asked Mr Scroop.

Scroop问"8乘3加2得多少？"

“You, in blue.”

“I’m confused,” said Chip.

Chip说，“我不清楚。“

“Use your head.” Yelled Mr Scroop.

It was playtime.

到了户外活动的时间了。

Mrs May showed them how to play with hoops.

May给孩子们演示怎么玩滚圈。

Mr Scroop told them the rules of hopscotch.

Scroop教孩子们跳房子的规则。

Chip threw a ball and it hit a boy called Matthew.

Chip扔球时不小心砸到了一个叫Matthew的小男孩。

A few of the children ran to help Matthew.

好几个小孩赶忙跑了过去帮助Matthew。

“The ball flew out of my hands,” said Chip.

Chip说，球不小心从手里飞了出去。

“Look, over there!” called Wilf, pointing.

这时，Wilf指着旁边喊道，看那边。

“Don’t be so rude, boy,” said Mr Scroop.

Mr Scroop听到了严厉的说，“别那么粗鲁，喊什么喊。”

“But look,” said Wilf.

“但是，您还是看一下吧。”Wilf说。

“That goat is chewing your gown.”

“那只山羊正在撕咬您的袍子。”

Mr Scroop ran to rescue his gown.

Scroop赶忙跑了过去把他的袍子从羊嘴里救了下来。

He took the goat back to the field next door.

他把山羊牵回到了旁边的草地上。

Mr Scroop wiped his face.

Scroop擦了擦脸上的汗。

“You children are not so useless,” he said.

他说，你们这些小不点倒不是一无是处啊。

“Phew!” said Wilf. “What a day.”

Wilf深呼了一口气说，“呼， 这一天啊~”

“You did well,” said Mr Scroop.

Scroop笑了笑说，你们很不错。
